One of the ideas behind Montessori school is that kids like order.  That’s probably not true of all kids, but it’s true of my kid.  The other day I heard him say “Oh, a doorstop.  I put it with the other doorstops.”  And then I followed him to this:

Griffin and I often cruise into town on weekends to cruise downtown buses. We generally hop on at State Street, head to whatever transfer point the bus happens to be heading to, and transfer onto a bus heading back. We’ve been to the North transfer station, East, West and South. Many of the buses sport ads featuring Bucky Badger, which alone makes the adventure worthwhile. Through no effort of our own, Griffin has become our local mascot’s biggest fan.

Today we made it to the West Transfer station before hitting up Menards for tree house supplies (12′ 2″x8″’s and 8″ lag bolts) and sand for the sandbox.

We spent the weekend at the cabin with my parents, went to a carnival last night, and are still settling in from all the fun so I won’t write long.  I just wanted to remember what Griffin sounded like as he was falling asleep in the car last night:G (singing) – Qdoba.  Q – Q – Q – Do – Do – Ba.  Qdoba.G (still singing) Gavin, Megan, Landon, Eve (the names of his cousins)G – Counts to 20.  Tries to count to thirty, gets to 29 and says “and….” until I say “thirty”.  Continues on this way up to 100 with him saying “and…” and me helping with “forty, fifty” and so on.G (singing an ode again) – Qdoba.  Q-Q-Q-Do-Ba.  Burritos!

“Do you like the cabin?”

“(sob) yes.”

“Do you like the trains?”

“(sob) yes.”

“Do you like Grandma & Grandpa?”

“(sob) yes.”

“Do you like Mom & Dad?”

“(sob) no.”

Griffin and Sarah made this birthday cake yesterday.  Julian is taking the day off work so they can have an adventure this morning and then this afternoon we’re planning to head down to the cabin.  Happy birthday Griffin!

Griffin starts preschool in a month.  I was happily going along in denial until I got the big stack of paperwork to fill out, and then I predictably freaked right out.   It was a good week for this Slate article about Montessori education to come out.
