Blizzard

Sunday, 25. February 2007 11:21

I’m not sure how much snow we actually got. When I looked out this morning everything looked white, which was how it looked yesterday. Then I started to notice details, like there was only a small wave in the front yard where the boulder used to be. I opened the front door to find a three-foot drift. Julian deserves a medal or something for all the shovelling he did this morning, hopefully we won’t get too much more today.

Stocking up

Saturday, 24. February 2007 15:47

We went down to South Wayne yesterday to have my dad rip some wood (my dad can build anything) and to visit Carrie and Eve. On the way home it started to snow, hard. I knew it was supposed to snow this weekend, but I thought it wasn’t going to snow until tonight. Apparently the 6 inches of snow that fell on us last night was just a warm-up for the 14 inches of snow that’s going to fall on us tonight.

Whenever there’s a big storm coming I have the urge to stock up on food, but espcially so today. All we have in the fridge right now is spinach and brussels sprouts, and Griffin won’t eat either of those. I think I’m going to head to the grocery story while there’s still time…

The Dells

Friday, 16. February 2007 3:09

Earlier this week we spent a few days at the Kalahari waterpark in the Wisconsin Dells. While we were there we realized that this was Griffin’s third trip to the Dells, on the first trip he had just started walking.

Griffin loves the water and he’s sort of an adrenaline junkie. When we first got to the park Griffin went running out into the wave pool before we could get our shoes off. He went on all the individual slides he was tall enough for, and some tandem rides that would rival most roller coasters. Sometimes Julian uses the phase “proud and terrified” to describe Griffin, that’s how we felt for most of the trip. We looked around at the other relaxed parents talking and even drinking by the pools. We were double-teaming him the whole time and even had a few other parents jump in with offers to help keep him from drowning.

I’ll be glad when he’s old enough to swim without help, and even more glad when he’s old enough to reliably follow instructions like “don’t climb up the water slides”.

I just got a few pictures before the camera steamed up:

G is for…

Saturday, 3. February 2007 23:17

Tonight we were playing with some magnetic letters. I thought I’d teach Griffin how to spell his name, so I pointed to a G and said “G is for Griffin”. Griffin smiled and pointed to several other letters, saying “R is for mommy, K is for daddy, L is for Smudge, M is for Tavi”. The kid likes to share.

Super Bowl Chilly

Saturday, 3. February 2007 4:17

We’re hosting a toddler friendly super bowl get together this weekend. The forecast is a bit daunting. Super Bowl Sunday starts out 7am at -10 F, with a windchill of -24 (56 below freezing!). By game time it’s supposed to hit a balmy 0, with a windchill of -15.

Go Colts!

Sarah

Thursday, 1. February 2007 8:36

We love Griffin’s babysitter. In addition to being a great babysitter she’s a percussionist and she’s often a drummer in bands. I’m working from home today because she has to leave early and I can hear them playing a matching game downstairs. I just heard cheering and then Sarah asked “Who’s the rock star?”. Griffin answered, clearly not for the first time “Griffin is the rock star!”
